From Parts to We-ness: Voice, Power, and the Younger Self in AEDP - an offering by Dr. Maria Angelina

This salon will explore an AEDP clinical session that brings to life core transformational processes: a portrayal with a client’s young self, cultivating we-ness, the undoing of aloneness, and deepening somatic exploration of affective experience. We’ll attend to moment-to-moment tracking, illuminate choice points that strengthen client agency, and examine how assisting one’s client to lean into self-at-best can accompany a client to be with their more compromised parts.

Most importantly, we’ll reflect on the lived, relational field between therapist and client — including racialized and socio-cultural dynamics that shape voice, power, and agency within the AEDP therapeutic dyad.

As a group, we’ll reflect on and discuss key questions that we can ask ourselves as AEDP therapists in order to hold space for the racialized and cultural experiences that our clients either bring forward or are present in the therapeutic space.
