From Parts to We-ness: Voice, Power, and the Younger Self in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy

UPCOMING WORKSHOP

October 24th, 2026.

Time & Cost: TBD

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is an attachment-based, experiential, and emotion-focused model that understands healing as emerging through the experience of a deeply attuned therapeutic relationship. Drawing on attachment theory, neuroscience, and transformational research, AEDP equips clinicians to accompany clients through experiences of change, uncertainty, trauma, and emotional suffering within a secure relational context. At a time when counselling psychologists are increasingly working with clients navigating intersecting personal, social, and systemic challenges, AEDP offers a framework for cultivating relational depth, emotional resilience, and transformative change through authentic therapeutic connection. Central to this work is the recognition that therapeutic relationships are shaped by culture, identity, power, and lived experience, requiring ongoing therapist reflexivity and responsiveness.

This workshop will centre on a video-recorded AEDP clinical session, offering participants an opportunity to observe relational depth as it unfolds in real time. Through guided viewing of the session, discussion and group work, core AEDP transformational interventions will be demonstrated and explored, including working with a client's young self, cultivating we-ness, the undoing of aloneness, and deepening the somatic exploration of affective experience. Using the video as a foundation for discussion, participants will explore AEDP's four-state transformational process, attend to moment-to-moment tracking, and identify clinical choice points that strengthen client agency while supporting movement through change, uncertainty, and emotional complexity.

As we view the clinical work together, we will also explore the lived relational field between therapist and client, attending to how racialized, cultural, gendered, and other socio-cultural identities shape experiences of safety, voice, power, and agency within the therapeutic dyad. We will consider how these dynamics are recognized, responded to, and metaprocessed within an AEDP framework to deepen therapeutic connection and support transformational change.

Participants will leave with practical reflections and interventions for deepening into client affective experiences, strengthening relational depth across diverse identities and lived experiences in contemporary clinical practice.

MEET THE PRESENTER:

Dr. MARIA ANGELINA

is a certified AEDP Therapist and AEDP Supervisor with over 15 years clinical counselling experience. She works both in post-secondary and in private practice in Vancouver, B.C.

Her foray into the AEDP world started with her doctoral research which aimed to better understand the attachment processes within psychotherapy.

Like many, she immediately found and continues to ‘find home’ in AEDP as her therapeutic orientation. In her words, “Within this modality, I have felt a deepening, a grounding into self and other, a releasing into process and into relationships, a synchrony, all of which continue to feel infinitely meaningful and creative. I can say with certainty and with gratitude, I am in every way a better person, partner, parent, and psychotherapist because of AEDP.”

She has assisted at multiple AEDP courses and trainings and facilitated local workshops on various aspects of AEDP. Additionally, she has presented her AEDP clinical work and research at several psychotherapy conferences.

She looks forward to connecting with participants in our growing & thriving Vancouver community
